W102 Natal Chart Interpretation-Alternate Tools

The course introduces students to the basics of cosmological symbolism and applications developed in Western cultures and in current use. Beyond planets, houses, signs and aspects, 102 introduces students to natal patterns and chart points that clarify natal interpretation, such as: configurations, essential dignities, sensitive points, house systems, harmonics, asteroids, declinations, Moon phases and the natural cycles of outer planets. This course covers:

  • a comparison of methods in the development of modern astrological traditions;
  • a critique of several areas of astrological study including, systems of planetary interpretation;
  • a comparison of older and newer interpretive systems in current use; and
  • the process of natal chart synthesis and interpretation

Weekly topics include:

  • An introduction to astrology's roots and the purposes for natal chart interpretation such as spiritual growth, self-knowledge, understanding of past events, prediction of future events, and how that influences the way the chart is read. Does the natal chart show everything?
  • Comparing house systems
  • Finding planetary strength and working with essential dignities and debilities
  • An introduction to harmonics as the foundation of aspects, including an examination of the minor aspects
  • Expanding your interpretative skills with multiple aspects, aspect configurations and aspects created by planetary declination
  • Expanding your interpretation with the moon's nodes, vertex, part of forunte, solstice points, pre-natal eclipse, the Aries point and more.
  • An introduction to the basics of midpoint theory
  • Working with the minor planetary bodies (asteroids and dwarf planets) and an introduction to fixed stars.
  • Working with the lunation phases and planetary cycles in human development in chart interpretation.
