This 6-week course in our series on Character, Calling and Karma focuses on the individual's karma and the soul's movement through many lifetimes. Students will meet for two hours each week in live online sessions and continue their conversations and studies in an online course site. Each live session will be recorded and students will receive a copy of the recording.
In this course we consider the individual’s karma and the soul’s movement through many lifetimes. We will explore the contributions from India, and astrological perspectives toward reincarnation. In this context we will take a comparative and critical look at many version of spiritual astrology in the modern world, from Alan Leo through Dane Rudhyar and Alice Bailey to the Steven Forrest and Jeffrey Green. We will see many ways to apply the idea of the soul’s incarnations to astrological delineation and practice.
Although there the concept of reincarnation shows up in Hellenistic writings, these ideas do not gain much traction in western thought until the spread of the Kaballah and astrological magic beginning in the 15th Century (also the start of Europe's Age of Discovery). And it is not until the 1800's that the concepts of karma and reincarnation fully cross-over from Indian astrology into its Western counterpart.
This course will explore the contributions of Hinduism and Buddhism and their spiritual and astrological perspective toward reincarnation as well as modern astrology's adoption of the evolutionary journey. We survey and apply the many ways that astrologers from Leo through Rudhyar and Bailey to the Forrest and Green have applied the idea of the soul’s incarnations to astrological practice.
