The Astrology of Relationship

This certificate explores basic counseling issues and locates various relationships in the natal chart, introduces chart comparison and other modern Western approaches to interpretation of relationships.
Primary Instructor: Karen McCauley. Guests have included Claudia Dikinis, Bob Glasscock and Donna Van Toen.

WR201 is required for the diploma. WR202 and WR203 are optional and may be taken in any order.

WR201 Introduction to Counseling

In this course, students will be introduced to considerations involved in astrological counseling as a profession, and to the process of working on relationship issues with clients, including finding relationships in the chart, organizing a session, methods of delivering content, ethical issues and referral strategies.

Course Objectives:

  • Through completing designated readings and assignments, actively participating in discussion forums, internet conferences, and written assignments, the student will be able to:
  • Differentiate astrological counseling from other healing and helping modalities.
  • Understand the importance of and be able to identify specific listening, focusing and communication skills integral to successful counseling interactions.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop specific parameters for counseling sessions.
  • Locate relationship needs and potential in the natal chart.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the major ideas and practices which led to the development of modern astrological counseling as a field of practice.
  • Demonstrate understanding of approaches to ethical dilemmas inherent in counseling.

WR202 Families

Students will continue to build their astrological interpretation skills as they examine issues related to families, including the parental axis, siblings, extended families and generational characteristics. Students will also explore temperament, astrology’s lost key. The primary goal of this course is to promote better understanding, application and usage of basic consultation and communication skills with regard to questions about family relationships..

Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, the students will be able to:

  • have a reasonable understanding of the history and development of theories regarding temperament
  • be able to identify varying temperaments applicable to children and indicated in their cosmological charts
  • have a clear understanding of ethical considerations which may complicate discussions of third party charts
  • understand Greenbaum's method of identifying the pure temperaments and mixed temperaments and hypothesize about their possible application to the natal chart and to family chart comparisons
  • recognize and apply the basic methods for identifying parent-child, sibling, and extended family relationships in the natal chart
  • Recognize the existence of parenting themes and family characteristics reflected in the natal chart
  • Recognize and identify basic psychological issues likely among family members

WR203 Intimate relationships

Astrology can provide a great deal of insight into the basic dynamics of love and marriage. This course will cover techniques, including comparisons and composites. Psychological principles, psychological issues and ethical concerns and considerations will also be examined. The primary goal is to promote better understanding, application and usage of basic consultation and communication skills with regard to questions about relationships.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, the students will be able to:

1. identify primary categories of human relationships.

2. locate relationships in specific houses of a cosmological chart .

3. identify at least two issues involved in validating cosmological information.

4. identify personal filters or critical thinking obstacles which could interfere with clear understanding and interpretation of astrological data.

5. locate and evaluate the astrological representations of individual attitudes towards love, sex and life responsibilities, attraction to others, potential for making commitments and for enduring relationships.

6. identify, compare and contrast the various methods of chart comparison.

7. identify, compare and contrast the various methods of using composite charts.

8. identify special charts used in relationship analysis such as first meeting chart, marriage election chart, draconic natal and composite, heliocentric and sidereal natal

WR204 Practicum for Natal Interpretation

Instructors: Karen McCauley and Bruce Scofield

This intermediate-level course is designed for students of astrology who know the symbols but have difficulty synthesizing their meaning into a coherent interpretation. Students and instructors will work together on natal charts in this highly interactive course on delineation.
